Soo K. Chan, is a practicing architect based in Singapore. He is the founding principal and design director of SCDA Architects Pte Ltd, established in 1995. Born in 1962 in Penang, Malaysia, he obtained his Master of Architecture degree at Yale University in 1987 and is a registered architect in Singapore and the United States.
He has taught part-time and lectured at the National University in Singapore, the University of Paris and other universities. He was a visiting professor at Syracuse University in the fall of 1998. Soo Chan was the winner of the inaugural President’s Design Award/ Singapore Designer of the Year 2006 and received the SIA-Getz Architecture Prize for Emergent Architecture Asia in 2006.
Recent works from his practice include The Singapore High Commission in New Delhi, OneKL apartments in Kuala Lumpur, and the Alili Villas Soori in Bali, which have made the shortlist at the World Architectural Festival in Barcelona.
Soo Chan’s portfolio of projects includes master plans, resorts and hotels, high-rise apartments, commercial and institutional buildings, and private homes in Asia, Africa, Europe, Australia, and the United States.
