Laurence Liauw is a Visiting Associate Professor at The University of Hong Kong. He has practiced architecture in the UK, Malaysia, mainland China, and Hong Kong, and is a professional member of HKIA, HKIUD, and RIBA. After graduating from the Architectural Association School in London, he has focused his work on contemporary Chinese urbanism, urban design, typological variation, and post-generic cities.

His professional work includes Asian master-planning projects, arts and social institutions, and residential projects. He has won a number of invited competitions and design awards. In 1997 he researched/produced a BBC documentary on the rapid urbanization of China's Pearl River Delta.

He served as a guest editor of AD for its "New Urban China" issue in 2008 and World Architecture for its "Hong Kong 1997-2007" issue in 2007. He exhibited at the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2006, the Skyscraper Museum in New York in 2008, and the Rotterdam Biennale in 2009.

He was a member of the creative team for the Shenzhen Pavilion at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo and has lectured at international schools of architecture, including the AA School, the Bartlett, Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, MIT, Cooper Union, USC, the Berlage Institute, and Tsinghua University.
