Cheong Yew Kuan is the founder of AreaDesigns, an architectural/interior practice based in Singapore and Bali. Cheong opened the firm after graduating from National University of Singapore and 6 years with Kerry Hill Architects. Cheong works extensively on a variety of residential, commercial and hospitality projects in Asia, Middle East and the Americas.
Much of his work are in economically growing, culturally strong and tradition rich environments which facilitate designs that blends local and international, modern with traditional. Often source cultures are studied and projects evolved into unique forms respecting context, materials, technology and the environment.
He has worked on many resorts for Aman, FourSeasons, Como, Alila as well as private residences for Donna Karan, Keith Richards, Christina Ong and Sheikh Mohammad Al-Nahyan.
An avid traveller and nature lover, Cheong indulges both in current projects such as an Alila resort in a Borneo, a private estate in Bhutan and a tented camp on Sumba island, Indonesia.
